700-something

700 is better than 2500. Progress has been made. But, wow. Purging and filing four years of documented life is emotionally draining. There are bright spots for sure, but there are also whole sections you don't even open and just file under "the shitty part." Some people might purge that part. But I peeked a little. It wasn't all that shitty. And sometimes it's the biggest messes that leave the best shine after cleaning. Something about the grit really makes for great polish, I guess.

I'm already looking forward to all the room there will be for new stuff to blossom when my inbox is washed and cleaned and folded neatly away.

Like this new band I just found.  I will definitely welcome more newness and goodness like this. And spring. And flowers. yes.

Things that blow my mind

1) This video. Period.

2) The fact that I actually know both participants in that crazy video.

3) The fact that I spent my entire weekend working on email purging and organization while my friends are having crazy fun times celebrating closing day on the mountain (that is if they haven't already bailed for biking in the desert). Total lameness.

Shuffle, shuffle.

The weekend was pretty wacky. Not for the debauchery you'd expect from a major drinking holiday falling on a Saturday, more in the wacky-out-of-the-ordinary-stuff-happening kind of way.

Take the Shamrock Shuffle, for instance. Every year, about this time, this local 5/10k race brings a couple thousand brave running souls to the center of Madison to run what is usually a painfully cold race that is uphill both ways (Swear I'm not exaggerating, ask anyone. Uphill both ways, and wind chills that would make penguins cranky.)

This year I said "no more." I do not need another $30 cotton t-shirt to donate. I do not need to freeze my toochie off while sucking wind for a few miles to gain credibility in any of the circles I'm hanging in these days. I'm done with this race.

Ha. This year it was a sunny, 70-degree near-perfect day.

Figures.

But spectating was embraced. Lattes were consumed. Vitamin D absorbed. Fun times had.

Besides....I still got my run in. That's right. Other oddities from the weekend included me....running. Not only did I run. But I ran FIVE MILES at the end of two very consistent weeks of REGULAR RUNNING.

You see there is another little local race coming up. This one has FREE BEER. But the line gets long. And so you see there....at the intersection of beer and running....MOTIVATION. The faster you finish, the shorter the beer line.

Hey, I'll take motivation wherever I can get it.

And with that, spring training has begun.

Just when you think...

Just when you think you're ok staying put for a spell....needless to say, I probably shouldn't see this movie.

jump in, the water's freezing

Oh, the magical internets. I didn't even know I was dying to see someone water ski up an iceberg, but as it turns out....I was. Doesn't hurt that he looks just a tad like Matthew McConaughey and acts like he's just touring around one of the Florida keys not swimming in a not-so-distant relative of the skating rink.

Bread, or something

I've been here. I sat at an outdoor table at this adorable, delicious little place in SF. And I love bread, I do. But I REALLY wish this video was about the croissants. Because OH. MY. GOD. the croissants. I thought about them for days. I pined for this dirty, noisy, San Francisco street corner for months because of those damn croissants. All the way up the 1 to Seattle.  Across Montana....and North Dakota....

But it is better to have loved and kept driving, than to have never loved at all. Or something...maybe. No, yes. Definitely better to have loved. Wait. Let's talk about bread. Here's a sweet little video.

Like a little math with your adventure?

They don't say it but I'm guessing this is based on a Fibonacci Sequence. I'm quite intrigued by the intersection of math and nature. Not intrigued enough to actually want to do the math....but I'd help shovel.

You can find more information about Jim Denevan's project here.
